My name is Oleksandr. I am a Ukrainian soldier, a father, and a son trying to support my family while continuing to serve my country. This is the second time in my life that war has taken away my home and everything my family had built. I am asking for help because I no longer have the strength or financial ability to rebuild everything on my own.
I kindly ask you to take a moment to read my story and understand what my family has been through. I know there are many people in the world who need help, and I am truly grateful to anyone who is willing to listen to my story.
Before moving to Kramatorsk, I lived in Donetsk.
In 2014, when Donetsk came under occupation, my family lost our home and everything we had built there. We were forced to leave and start our lives again in Kramatorsk.
Over the years, we worked hard to rebuild our lives. My parents started their own business, we had a home again, and we were finally able to live a normal life.
Then the full-scale war began.
Once again, we lost our home, our stability, and our source of income. My parents lost their business, and our family was forced to start over for the second time.
My mother and sister had to leave Kramatorsk and move to other parts of Ukraine. They are trying to rebuild their lives and support themselves, but their income is very limited.
My father is facing severe complications from diabetes. As a result of these complications, part of his leg had to be amputated. He now requires constant care, medical treatment, medication, and assistance with everyday life. Because of his condition, he can no longer work or contribute financially to our family.
I also have a young child. Unfortunately, I do not live together with my child. My child currently lives with my former spouse in a small rented apartment in Odesa. Odesa continues to face regular missile and drone attacks, but my child and former spouse have no other place to live. I have a responsibility to support my child and help with rent and everyday expenses.
At the same time, I continue to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. I do everything I can to support my parents, my child, and my family.
But I am trying to carry the financial responsibility for several people at the same time: my parents, my child, and myself while serving in the military.
After losing everything twice, I have reached a point where I realize that I cannot rebuild our lives alone anymore.
My Goal — A Safe Home for My Family
My fundraising goal is €100,000.
The main purpose of this fundraiser is to purchase a safe and suitable home for my family in one of the relatively safer regions of Ukraine.
The amount may seem large, but there is an important reason for this goal.
The regions of western and central Ukraine that are considered relatively safer have received a very large number of internally displaced people since the beginning of the war. As a result, housing in these areas has become significantly more expensive than in cities and regions that continue to experience regular missile and drone attacks.
We cannot simply return to the places where housing is cheaper, because safety is the main reason we need to relocate.
I want to find a suitable home in a relatively safe region where my family can finally live without constantly worrying about another evacuation or losing everything again.
The €100,000 goal is intended primarily to make the purchase of such a home possible, while also covering the necessary costs associated with purchasing the property, relocating, and making it suitable for my family — especially considering my father’s limited mobility and medical needs.
This is not about buying a luxury property. It is about being able to afford a safe and suitable home in a part of Ukraine where my family can realistically build a stable future.
If sufficient funds are raised beyond what is needed for the home and the necessary relocation expenses, a portion may also be used to purchase a basic, affordable used car to help transport my father. Because of his amputation and medical condition, travelling to medical appointments and receiving the care he needs can be extremely difficult without reliable transportation.
Why I Am Asking for Help
I have tried to rebuild my life twice.
In 2014, I lost my home in Donetsk because of the occupation. I moved to Kramatorsk, and my family and I worked hard to build our lives again.
Then the full-scale war took away what we had rebuilt.
I am still serving my country. I am doing my duty and doing everything I can to support the people closest to me. But I am also a son caring for a father who can no longer work, a parent supporting a young child, and a family member trying to help people who have lost their homes and source of income.
I never imagined that I would have to ask strangers for help. But after losing our home twice, I have reached a point where I cannot do this alone.
I am not asking for a luxurious life. I am asking for the opportunity to give my family a safe place to live and a chance to stop starting over from nothing.
Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to having a home again.
